In the home of Sir Ector,
Arthur, the son of the late king, was spending his boyhood in happiness and
safety.
প্রয়াত রাজার পুত্র আর্থার সুখে আর নিরাপদে স্যার এক্টরের বাড়িতে তার ছেলেবেলা
কাটাতে লাগল।
As he grew older, he became
gentle, strong, handsome and good like his father Uther-Pendragon.
বড়ো হওয়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে সে তার বাবা উত্থার-পেনড্রাগনের মতোই ভদ্র শক্তিশালী, সুপুরুষ এবং সৎ মানুষ হয়ে উঠল।
Eighteen years passed.
আঠারোটা বছর কেটে গেল।
Britain was torn by bitter
rivalry.
চরম শত্রুতার কারণে
ব্রিটেন ছিন্নভিন্ন।
None of the fighting barons
had managed to become the king.
লড়াইতে ব্যস্ত ব্যারনদের কেউই রাজা হতে পারল না।
The people longed for the
old days of peace and prosperity under Uther-Pendragon.
লোকেরা রাজা উথার পেনড্রাগনের সময়কার শান্তি ও সমৃদ্ধির জন্য হাপিত্যেশ করতে

It was Christmas time, a
time of festivity.
এল বড়োদিনের সময়, উৎসবের

But all around Britain,
people were hungry, cold and frightened.

One day, in a churchyard, people found a large stone on which was fixed a magnificent sword.
একদিন এক গির্জাপ্রাঙ্গণে একটি বিশাল পাথরে একটি জমকালে
তরবারি আটকে থাকতে দেখল লোকেরা।
Upon the stone, in gold
letters, was inscribed, “whoever pulls out this sword is by right of birth, the
king of England.”
পাথরের উপর সোনার অক্ষরে খোদাই করা রয়েছে “এই তরবারি যে টেনে তুলতে পারবে, জন্মের অধিকারে সে-ই হবে ইংল্যান্ডের রাজা।”
Immediately, the eager
barons who longed to become the king, jostled among themselves to lift the
sword.
সঙ্গে সঙ্গে, রাজা
হতে চাইত যেসব ব্যারন, তরবারি
তোলার জন্য তাদের মধ্যে হুড়োহুড়ি পড়ে গেল।
None succeeded.

The sword remained fixed to
the stone.
তরবারিটা পাথরেই আটকে থাকল।
It was Arthur, at the age of
eighteen, who succeeded in lifting the sword for the first time.

The barons were angry and
disappointed.

Arthur, slender and young, lifted the sword easily.

king.

After becoming the king of

He was helped by wise
Merlin.

Like his father, Arthur was
concerned about the good of the common people.

King Arthur fought battles
so that no one could ill-treat the humblest of his subjects.

King Arthur had lost his
royal sword in a battle.

One day, Merlin took him to
a valley of sweet-smelling flowers.
একদিন, মার্লিন

At the edge of the plain
there was a deep lake.
সমভূমির প্রান্তদেশে একটা গভীর হ্রদ ছিল।
As Arthur approached the
lake, a beautiful arm with golden bracelets rose from the water.
আর্থার হ্রদের দিকে এগোতেই, সোনার বালা পরা সুন্দর একখানা হাত জল থেকে উঠে এল।
The hand held a sword set
with rubies and emeralds.
হাতে ধরা ছিল চুনি-পান্নাখচিত একটা তরবারি।
